너를 맞아 보낸다

  삶의 다양한 모습과 고단한 숨결이 시의 눈을 틔우고 오만 가지 허드레 잡념까지도 내게로 와서 시가 되었을 때, 그것은 돌올한 내 시의 성취라면 성취라고 감히 자부한다.
  나는 내 시집 <내 이렇게 살다가> 의 자서에 다음과 같이 적은 적이 있다.
  ‘나의 여정은 분명 저녁나절쯤이지만 나의 시는 아직 새벽이다. 그래서 하염없이 회안에 젖는다.’
  내 삶이 어느 날 느닷없이 내가 아닌 것처럼 비춰지기도 했으며 삶의 질곡이 부질없이 그리움으로 다가오기도 했음을 고백한다. 그러나 그럴 때마다 내 삶의 심지를 곧추세우는 의연한 ‘여유’가 나를 건져 내기도 했다. 이것이 내 시의 이력이자 본령이라는 것을 나는 잊지 않는다. 
  끝으로, 이 영문시집 펴내는데 있어 아내(신미자)와 아들(정주헌) 노고가 컸음을 밝혀둔다.
